A Murder With An Ashtray?
 

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a true expert on murder mysteries who may be able to help me out. I'm looking for a novel (any novel) where somebody is murdered with an ashtray (ideally hit on the head with one of those heavy ashtrays). Can anybody remember a book with this kind of scenario? I'd be most grateful if somebody can come up with a book that fits the description.

Hmm... I have a very vague recollection of just such a crime, but I can't put my finger on it.

I know I've read mysteries where somebody was clobbered by a heavy ashtray, but can't think of any titles (it's not a plot device that is particularly memorable). On the other hand, I recall as a kid the reverse, where somebody tried to murder an ashtray. My father, an inveterate pipe smoker, used to drive the family crazy when he retired to his study after dinner, and for the next few hours, whatever the rest of us were doing, watching TV or whatever, we had to hear him banging out his pipe dottle on this gigantic brass ashtray he was habituated to use. We called it his post-prandial dinner gong.

Isn't a heavy glass ashtray the murder weapon in'Beyond a Reasonable Doubt' I only remember the Fritz Lang movie,but I'm sure it weas a book first.
